This book assesses the military capabilities and dominant strategies of China and Taiwan. This has become a burning issue given that after several years of relative tranquility, the 1996 Taiwanese presidential elections (where pro-independence parties gained prominence) increased the prospect of conflict on the Strait. This volume focuses on the capabilities of the Chinese army to conduct operations in and across the Strait. The authors also explored the policy issues connected with the ongoing social, economic, and political differences that divide China and Taiwan.
