This paper explores the economic policy challenges the US faces in the context of the financial crisis. Challenges include the subdued pace of recovery from the recession, worries about fiscal fragility, a growing debt burden and rising income inequality. The author argues that none of these challenges are insurmountable, but that all of them require a more effective policy response than has been seen to date.
