Against the backdrop of the terrorist attacks of 9/11 this report highlights the key questions on nuclear policy that will need to be addressed during the second term of the UK Labor party. This evaluation contains the following questions: What is the likely impact of the Bush Administration’s nuclear policies on Britain’s nuclear forces? Should Trident be replaced in the future or entered into multilateral disarmament negotiations and should its service life be extended, or could Trident submarines be converted to become conventionally armed submarines in the future? Can nuclear weapons be used as a deterrent to proliferators? In light of recent challenges in the courts, is British nuclear policy legal?
