This book explore the economic element of US national power from various systematic points of view. In general, the essays within develop a framework in which the nation’s economy is seen as a subsystem of national security. They analyze the roles of debt, government, industrial capability, energy, science, technology, and human capital in the health of the economy. The authors then offer ideas that the US could utilize to develop a 'grand strategy' for improving the country's economic viability. The book is based on selected papers from a conference organized by the National Defense University in August 2010.
