This study explores Afghanistan’s religious schools and the connections between religious education in Afghanistan and across the Pakistani border. The study finds a highly diverse sector that defies many of the stereotypes associated with the system. The author states that this tradition is not inert but constantly evolving and reacting to the cultural and political environment in which it exists.
