This paper documents a set of sensitivity tests that provide proof of the empirical disconnect between climate variability and civil war outbreak, incidence, and severity. The study revealed little support for the alleged positive association between warming and higher frequency of major civil wars in Africa. The authors call for more research to better understand the full range of possible social dimensions of climate change.
