This paper presents a European perspective on the American initiative on missile defense and its shift from a national to a more global focus. It offers assessments of the official positions on missile defense put forth by a number of European governments. The countries under examination range from France, Germany and the Netherlands to Denmark, Sweden and Norway as well as the Czech Republic, Romania and the UK.
