This paper examines the challenges that South Africa faces because of the political and economic crisis in Zimbabwe during the first decade of the new millennium. The author examines the two serious challenges. The first one is external: SA’s quiet diplomacy approach towards Zimbabwe’s ruling ZANU-PF has raised important questions about SA’s position and reputation as a regional power and global actor. The second challenge is internal and can be described as an immigration and asylum crisis.
