This paper looks at how trade liberalization could increase food security in the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC). The author argues that opening up the service sector to regional competition could lead to improvements in agricultural productivity in the SADC. Negotiations on this topic, however, have not progressed very far. This is partly due to the lack of research on the links between the services trade and agricultural productivity and supply.
