This report discusses the world's opinion of the United States and of US policy in the wake of the 2003 Iraq war. It warns that widespread fear and mistrust of the US are creating immediate and long-term problems for the United States. The authors argue that the consequences of anti-Americanism are substantial, ranging from the difficulty faced by the US in forming a coalition for US efforts in Iraq, to the increase in terrorist attacks on American interests, to strained relations with America's transatlantic partners. The report recommends that the US make its foreign policy more sensitive to concerns of public diplomacy, improve communications strategies overseas, and enhance training for its ambassadors.
