Since the power crisis of 2007–2008, the energy industry in South Africa has been in a precarious state. Recent gas discoveries in Mozambique could alleviate South Africa's energy insecurity. Taking advantage of the discoveries, however, will require firm commitments from South Africa at the political, financial and economic levels.
