This paper analyzes a number of factors that help to explain the dichotomous public attitude toward the South African president, Jacob Zuma. The authors argue that age, civic engagement, geographic region, education, socio-economic status, integration in society, and perception of the own country and its future influence the attitude. They conclude that Jacob Zuma, despite the controversies surrounding him, is viewed positively by the majority of South Africans.
