This policy brief takes the Fukushima disaster in Japan as a staring point to discuss the commonalities in US and Japanese disaster response. It compares the response in Fukushima to the Hurricane Katrina response, addressing the common problems that plagued both. The brief concludes with recommendations on how the two countries can improve their disaster response, also by cooperating.
