This report discusses the necessity of promoting sustainable economies in the Balkans. The authors describe how the conflict in Kosovo and the civil war in Bosnia served as a wake-up call to the international community. The report emphasizes that economic reconstruction alone will not be sufficient in bringing long-term peace and stability to the Balkan region, but that also an increase in living standards will be necessary to foster sustainable economic growth and reduce political tensions.
