This paper argues that in order to feed the world's growing population and ensure food security innovations are necessary. One way to do this might be through pull mechanisms, which help overcome underinvestment in agriculture by increasing demand and compensation for new technologies. Consequently, the author discusses the AgResults initiative, a project that uses pull mechanisms to engage the private sector and encourage the development and dissemination of agricultural technologies aimed at improving food security and smallholder productivity.
