This paper looks at the future of US-Russia relations. The authors predict that bilateral relations will assume a lower priority for Washington and Moscow in the next 4 years. However, they also argue there are important areas where cooperation is possible, even necessary, despite the growing 'values gap' between the two countries. In the short term, these include Syria, Afghanistan, the Iranian nuclear issue, and missile defense in Europe. Long term issues relate to each country’s pivot toward the Asia-Pacific region, interests in security and development of the Arctic, and a desire to stimulate bilateral trade and investment.
