This working paper explores the potential trade opportunities and challenges that climate change mitigation policies may create for exporters in low income countries (LICs). The paper first takes stock of the trade related aspects of climate change negotiations to date, before discussing the extent to which such measures may provide opportunities as well as challenges to LIC exporters and affect competitiveness. The paper concludes by highlighting the need for policy makers to develop cooperation between the trade and climate change regimes, and adapt existing export diversification strategies.
