This paper offers an assessment of the Adaptation Fund, an instrument of the Kyoto Protocol within the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It starts by considering the driving objectives of the multilateral climate fund, setting it in its historical context, and looking at the range of financing instruments that it has been able to offer. Next, the authors review the fund's portfolio and its outcomes. Finally, they look at the fund's role and added value within the global international climate finance architecture.
