This paper analyzes the economic effect that working abroad had on the households of those qualified for such work. It focused on the households of people from the Philippines who were able to apply for temporary work visas through South Korea's Employment Permit System. It found that households with a member working in Korea spent more, borrowed less, and invested more in their human capital. They found that there were no significant effects on saving or entrepreneurship.
