Adult learning is a key factor for enhancing employment, innovation and growth. The aim of this paper is to understand when adult learning takes place and whether it leads to a medium or a high level of educational attainment. Looking at data for people aged between 25-64 from 27 countries in Europe, the authors found that a rise in educational attainment, as well as participation in education and training, happens mainly between the ages of 25-29, though educational investments in cohorts older than 25 still occurs.
