This brief discusses the reasons underlying the US pivot away from Europe and towards Asia. After analyzing the factors that contributed to the US decision to focus its attention on Asia, the author goes on to examine the military implications of the US 'pivot' and its significance for the Asia-Pacific region. Before concluding, he considers future scenarios for the relationship between the US and China, with a particular focus on the possibility of the establishment of a cooperative and non-competitive relationship.
