This brief examines ethnic Han relations with ethnic minorities in China, including the Uyghurs. In the case of Xinjiang province, The text's author argues that ethnic propaganda, symbols of state power, and the official (mis)representation of Muslim minorities all contribute to the growing alienation of the local people.
