This issue examines conflicts in Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Niger, Senegal and South Africa. The authors examine the implications of the relatively high number of fatalities in Nigeria and the DRC. They also look into the geographic distribution of attacks and the major actors involved are also closely considered. Finally, in the analysis of South Africa, the authors show that riots and protests have resulted in considerable fatalities.
