This issue focuses on conflict trends in Kenya, Djibouti, Egypt, Tunisia, Libya and the Central African Republic. The geographic and historical dimensions are analyzed in the context of the Kenyan election while the authors note deepening tensions in many North African states. There is also a special feature on urban political violence. This section provides indicative explanations for increasing levels of violence in Africa's more densely populated areas.
