This brief analyzes the temporal, geographic, historical and ethnic dimensions of political violence in Nigeria. In 2013, Nigeria is experiencing multiple types of conflict with specific regional developments. Underlying these seemingly disparate conflicts is a profound weakness of the state as well as ongoing grievances toward Abuja. The author concludes that political violence has implications for the country's internal development, and even for its role in the region.
