This brief analyzes contemporary political and societal challenges in Indonesia. The author contends that the period of dictatorship in Indonesia led to a failure of institutional growth. She also discusses the contemporary challenges facing the country. She concludes that while military influence over political affairs has been reduced, there is still much work to be done.
