This paper looks at the current dispute surrounding Sweden's national defense policy. Although it still adheres to being a militarily unaligned nation, there are growing concerns about Russia’s future intentions in the Baltic region and Sweden's ability to defend itself in the case of war. The concerns, in turn, have stimulated a debate around the nature of territorial defense and the role of mutual assistance in Swedish defense circles and beyond.
