This brief analyzes the education system in Leh, a district of Ladakh in India, and claims that the hostile environment acts as a barrier to improving educational facilities. The author observes that the education system does not place much importance on learning. In addition, adverse geographical accessibility, a harsh environment during the winter and a lack of proper infrastructure pose problems for students and lead to high drop out rates.
