This policy brief examines Arctic governance through a study of the Arctic interests of four Asian states: China, Japan, Singapore, and South Korea. It also looks at how the US, Russia, and Norway are responding to this increased interest in the region. It suggests that the Asian states studied do not plan on a substantial increase in their commercial activities in the Arctic in the near future, but that they are open to increased involvement if it is commercially viable. It also says that the reactions of Arctic states to Asian state interests in the region have been varied.
