This note analyzes US development objectives in Pakistan in the context of the US troop withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2014. It says that the withdrawal marks a critical moment for the US in terms of its ability to show its credibility as a long-term partner to Pakistan. It also recommends that to improve its development assistance, the US should choose which agency is in charge of development in Pakistan, clarify the mission of its long-term development strategy, and make it easier to provide finance to successful projects in the country.
