This practice note provides a short introduction to the benefits of integrating gender issues into national security policy-making, as well as practical information on doing so. It argues that integration of gender issues is key to the effectiveness and accountability of the security sector and highlights the cases of Jamaica’s inclusive national security policy, and the role of women within the African National Council in South Africa as examples of this.
