This practice note looks at the benefits of integrating gender issues into civil society oversight of the security sector and provides practical information on how to do this. It argues that integration of gender issues into civil society oversight is key to the legitimacy of the security sector. The author highlights the importance of the involvement of men in combating violence against women, sexual health education for the Mongolian Armed Forces, and security sector oversight bodies in post-conflict contexts.
