This policy brief proposes a framework of actions and interventions to protect the threatened mangroves of Africa. Given the continent's extractive boom, the author argues that countries need to fully understand the consequences of natural resource exploitation for their fragile ecosystems, in order to minimize negative impacts and avoid poor trade-offs. To help deal with the issue, she suggests more effective management tools and interventions, as well as mechanisms for minimizing the tensions between extractive development and the conservation of mangrove forests.
