This paper assesses China’s impact on the economic growth of resource-rich countries since it joined the WTO in December 2001. The authors find that the Chinese appetite for commodities accounts for one tenth of the growth experienced by these countries since 2002. They then look at what will happen to this growth rate as China rebalances and its demand for commodities weakens.
