This paper discusses a research project on water scarcity in Bangladesh and the potential for conflict and cooperation in the Ganges–Brahmaputra–Meghna (GBM) basin. It first outlines the water treaties and agreements that exist between South Asian countries and stakeholders. It then summarizes the findings of a case study from Bangladesh. Finally, it illustrates the importance of multilateral frameworks and trans-boundary River Basin Organizations (RBOs) in dealing with water challenges in the region.
