This brief outlines how gender issues in society affect UN peacekeeping operations and measures. The study focuses on three innovative measures instigated by MONUSCO in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and finds that further efforts need to be undertaken to understand how actors and institutions form and reflect gender relations in society, and, in turn, how these relations facilitate or obstruct UN peacekeeping operations.
