This paper examines the importance and process of establishing transitional justice in post-conflict societies, with a particular focus on what might happen in Syria following its civil war. The author argues that Syrian political and community leaders are already planning to implement transitional justice in order to rebuild the rule of law in the country. However, no single model exists and leaders must quickly choose an appropriate design for their situation. He concludes that for Syria to rebuild rule of law will be an extraordinary achievement, yet the longer the war continues, the harder the task will be.
