This paper presents the findings of a survey on Tanzanian’s views regarding the legitimacy of the mandate of tax authorities, citizens awareness of tax obligations, and their perceptions of tax enforcement and avoidance possibilities. It also provides some suggestions for increasing the effectiveness of tax enforcement measures and restoring the citizens' confidence in tax officials in the country.
