This brief discusses the benefits of involving civil society organizations (CSOs) in the governance promotion and monitoring tool of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM). It suggests that countries should build on the gains made from citizens and governments working together and argues that reviews by CSOs could serve as a valuable contribution in national policy debates and implementation.
