This paper argues that US energy development policy toward developing countries should change its position on how it sees renewables and national gas investment. The authors argue that more than an estimated 60 million more people in poor nations could gain access to electricity if the US government's development institution, the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, were allowed to invest in natural gas projects and not just renewables.
