This paper analyzes the effect pension reforms in Denmark which began in 1993 are having on private savings of renters in the country. The authors find that the reforms which stipulate mandatory pension savings are having a significant effect on the level of overall household savings. This indicates that pension reforms that introduce mandatory savings have macroeconomic implications.
