This brief examines the implications of China’s growing interest in the Indian Ocean Region, particularly for India, Pakistan, and the US. The author argues that the advancement of China's efforts to realize its interests has the potential to destabilize the region. To avoid this, he thinks that China and India should open bilateral dialogue to reduce existing tensions and maintain their current levels of nuclear deterrence. However, he also suggests that given the current Chinese viewpoint, dialogue seems unlikely.
