Using data from a 2013 Afrobarometer survey, this briefing paper discusses Zambians’ perceptions of both their country’s economic performance and their government’s management of the economy since 2000. The author finds that, although the economy has been growing since the start of the new millennium, this was not felt by the majority of Zambians until 2013. He suggests that there is a link between this more positive public perception of economic conditions and the way in which the government is seen to be handling of the economy.
