This paper reviews existing literature on the costs and benefits of climate change adaptation for the water sector in Africa. In particular, it only focuses on adaptation to climate change which deals with the effect of climate change on the water sector, such as damage to water infrastructure, rather than impacts from water on other sectors, such as agricultural drought. It also examines adaptation cost estimates and the main appraisal methods used to determine them. The authors argue that literature on the topic is limited and provide recommendations on how to improve future appraisals.
