This brief assesses bilateral relationships between India and Bhutan on the key policy areas of politics, economy, and security. The author reviews developments in Bhutan’s situation in each of these areas, emphasizing the role played by India through political cooperation, economic intervention to manage the threat of a liquidity crunch, and the emergence of a China-India-Bhutan triad, respectively. She concludes by highlighting new trends in Bhutan-India relations and offering policy recommendations for the Indian government on how to intensify relations with its northern neighbor.
