By using data from an Afrobarometer survey conducted in 2012, this brief examines the depth of both formal and informal democracy in Ghana. It concludes that since the mid-2000s Ghanians have perceived their elections to be free and fair, which has led to voter turnouts of up to 80%. However, the report also suggests that participation in the political system isn't as broad as it should be.
