This paper discusses highly enriched uranium (HEU), including its medical, energy production and research uses; the nuclear weapon proliferation risks associated with it; as well as the projects which aim to reduce these risks. The author argues that the international community should seek alternatives for all uses of HEU and to ban the production of naval fuel using HEU in order to reduce the risk of nuclear weapon proliferation.
