This report provides an overview of levels of violence in North Africa with a focus on post-December 2010 instability. It analyzes the role and activity of the state in political violence in North African countries as well as the levels civil unrest including riots and protests. It also includes an actor-based study of historic and contemporary Islamist militancy in North Africa, underscoring the changing complexity of North Africa’s conflict profile.
