This brief explores policy options for the new Indian government to increase its involvement and relations with Afghanistan. The author argues that India should focus its efforts on four areas: development cooperation (expanding its activities in education, health, agriculture, public transport, technology and social issues), political liaising at the central and state levels, trade and investment, and security. For each of these areas the author explains its relevance, comments on what has already been done and suggests concrete measures the Indian government could undertake.
