This brief discusses the challenges and opportunities presented by the artisanal (small scale) gold mining sector in Zimbabwe. The authors also examine measures they think the country's government should take to promote artisanal miners’ contribution to sustainable development, economic growth and poverty alleviation in the country as well as some of the ways in which the government could improve the relationship between artisanal miners and commercial miners.
